Leo here.
Saturday morning. The final.
Reinsurance United came in having won all eight matches on the way there. Morgan Stanley came in third in the table.
Final score: Morgan Stanley 4, Reinsurance United 1.
Dario Occelli Junior scored twice and closed the season with 13 goals.
Morgan Stanley are the first champions in CFL Finance history.
WHAT IT FEELS LIKE TO WIN
There’s a moment after the final whistle that no trophy explains. For a second, nobody says a word. Then everybody does.
It’s every 8 AM kickoff, every early alarm, every match that didn’t go your way, all paying off at once, with the same people.
Nobody wins a final alone. You win it with the teammate who covered for you, and with the coworkers on the sideline who came to cheer.
MONDAY AT THE OFFICE
The celebration didn’t end on the pitch.
On Monday, the office celebrated them. Colleagues congratulated them. People who had never seen them play wanted to know how the final went. For a day, the team that wins together on Saturday was the story inside the building.
That’s what I’ll remember most from this first edition.
Because a trophy stays on a shelf. But the feeling of being recognized by the people you work with every day, for something you built together, stays with you.
A team that wins something together isn’t the same team on Monday. They’ve seen each other under pressure. They know who steps up. And now the whole office knows it too.
TO EVERYONE WHO PLAYED
Reinsurance United: eight straight wins and a final. That’s a season to be proud of.
Reinsurance City lifted the Silver Cup with a 5-2 win over EFG.
JP Morgan, Santander, UBS and Ocean Bank: nine matchdays of showing up, competing and coming back for more.
Before there was a trophy, this league was built by captains who pitched it to HR, to marketing and to their VPs, and by players who came back every Saturday.
The first CFL Finance belongs to all of them.
THE TAKEAWAY
A team that wins something together isn’t the same team on Monday.
And to every player: what will you remember most from this season? Tell me. I read every one.
