We're in a moment where everything is being automated.
Goldman Sachs Research estimates that generative AI could expose the equivalent of 300 million full-time jobs to automation, and in March 2026, AI became the number one most-cited reason for workforce reductions for the first time ever.
Whether it's our work or what we do with our time, we're starting to lose some kind of contact with reality.
But this isn't something we should fight against.
It's just part of how society is evolving. We should dive deep into it and make the most of it.
So what does that make fútbol?
Fútbol becomes the gap where we are free.
Not free from AI. Free to be.
When you play, you have this chance to express valuable traits of yourself that no computer can perform:
- Leadership.
- Teamwork.
- Fast decision making.
- Managing conflict.
So many complex things happen in fractions of seconds. No one can make these decisions for you.
You have the ball. You have to mark the man. Pass or shoot?
And when you play a tournament, it gets even more interesting. There are rivalries. Leadership conflicts. Long-term decisions versus short-term results.
There's this key ingredient inside us, the inner star, that turns even a Wednesday pickup game as important as a World Cup final.
So emotions emerge.
Parts of ourselves are exposed:
- Frustration.
- Glory.
- Anger.
- Excitement.
- Joy.
- Euphoria.
Sometimes personal. Sometimes collective.
And this is why we create such deep relations with whom we play. Because we see parts of each other that otherwise would never be exposed.
Research consistently shows that people who maintain participation in organized sports or recreational leagues report lower rates of depression, higher social connectedness, and better stress management than sedentary peers.
Such richness of experiences can't be performed by computers.
But are we against computers?
Of course not.
