When I started FCnoise, I never imagined I’d be writing this.
A league built only for finance. In Miami. Morgan Stanley, JP Morgan, UBS, Santander, EFG, Ocean Bank and the reinsurance squads, on the same pitch every Saturday.
In three days, after eight matchdays, two of them play for the first CFL Finance title: Reinsurance United and Morgan Stanley. Saturday, 9:00 AM, at Chabeli’s Field. The last time they met, it ended 6-5.
Banking runs on precision. Markets open early, deals close late and every decision carries a number.
But underneath the numbers, it runs on trust. And trust doesn’t come from a quarterly report. It comes from knowing who’s next to you when the pressure is on.
A FINAL IS DIFFERENT
You can feel it during the week. The group chat goes quiet. Captains check the lineup twice.
Then Saturday morning comes.
Nobody plays a final at 80 percent. You chase the ball you would have let go in week two. You defend every inch like your name is on it, because it is. When the whistle blows, some are celebrating. Some have nothing left.
A final asks for everything. And it gives something back.
Reinsurance United showed me the difference a process makes. They’ve been playing the CFL for two years. They have fought in semifinals and finals.
Morgan Stanley plays every week outside the tournament. That’s not the same as a tournament, but it shows their consistency, their order, and how they’ve embraced this league.
Two teams, two processes, both consistent in their own way.
On Monday, these players return to the same industry. Some will sit across from each other at a client meeting.
They’ll bring the kind of respect you only earn by competing with someone at full speed and shaking their hand after.
That’s the connection we want fútbol to create. A different kind of room, where people meet as who they are, not as their title.
A study published in The Lancet Psychiatry in 2018, covering 1.2 million adults in the U.S., found that people who exercise report 43% fewer days of poor mental health per month. Team sports showed the strongest link of any activity type.
Come to the final this Saturday morning and bring your voice for the sideline. If you can’t make it, follow it on our socials.
THE TAKEAWAY
The difference is in the process.
Who are you rooting for on Saturday? Tell me. I read every one.
